One of our most popular reviews is of a variant of the Seagull 1963 watch produced by Eddy Tse, aka HKED. Ed was kind enough to answer a few of our questions for this Christmas special interview feature.

The WRUK Interview – Eddy ‘HKED’ Tse

WRUK – How did you first get into collecting watches?
HKED – My grandfather loved watches and I guess it must have rubbed off on me. He gifted a watch to me before he passed away and has become my family heirloom.
WRUK – What about coordinating the production of watches? Was that a natural progression from collecting?
HKED – Yes, although it was more a case of being at the right place at the right time.

WRUK – We first come across you thanks to your involvement with the Sea-Gull 1963. How did you get involved in that watch?
HKED – Funnily enough, the first time I met our watch manufacturer Thomas was to purchase a 1963 watch from him in 2011. We chatted about the possibility of making watches for a bunch of enthusiasts and things progressed from there.
WRUK – You are a familiar name on the Watchuseek forum, and have played a pivotal role in several Watchuseek Project watches now. Which has been your favourite to work on?
HKED – Probably the ST5 project, where we used vintage Chinese movements or the 38mm ED63. Both are affordable vintage-style watches I can wear every day without worrying about them getting scratched etc.

WRUK – We’ve also seen your name pop up in association with one of your favourite new brands – EMG watches. How did you end up in that collaboration?
HKED – We met on a watch forum of all places! I helped EMG find a manufacturer for their first DL63 watch and we hit it off immediately. Eric and Derek later invited me to join the EMG team and here we are.

WRUK – We reviewed the Emperor Diver recently, and we know you are working on the EMG Nemo diver with the same case – is there anything else you are working on now?
HKED – We are working on a GMT watch and I’ll be bringing out 42mm versions of my ED63 this year.
WRUK – What is your favourite watch in your collection?
HKED – That’s a difficult question as I like to wear a different watch each day. However, the two watches I would never part with are my grandfather’s Datejust and an heirloom 1675.
WRUK – What are you wearing right now?
HKED – My ED63 Blue Reverse Panda on custom made Iyonk strap.
WRUK – Thanks for answering our questions, and good luck with your projects!
