Here at WRUK, we love to cover British watch brands, so we were very excited to get out hands on the new Marloe Pacific 76.

The Marloe Pacific 76 is one of a series of four watches in the Pacific collection, which we previewed last month.

The watch arrives in a textured cardboard two-part box, which opens up to reveal a wealth of goodies, which I show in the video review.

Case and Movement

The Marloe Pacific 76 has a superb “tri-finished” case, with curves in all the right places and stunning transitions between the polished surfaces and the brushed recesses on the sides of the watch. The crown has a concave finish which feels great in the hand, and all of the engravings are of top quality. It’s hard to convey the feeling of holding a watch that is “just right”, but, needless to say, Marloe has knocked it out of the park again.

Sandwiched between the magnified exhibition case back and the sapphire crystal (which has AR coating on both sides for the ultimate clarity) is a Sellita SW215-1 Swiss hand-wound movement. This is not a choice I often see in the watches that arrive for review at WRUK – with most brands going for the better-known automatic winding movements – but it means that the Marloe Pacific 76 is a svelte 12mm thick and feels wonderfully balanced on the wrist.

Dial and Hands

When I first laid eyes on the Marloe Pacific 76 I was worried that it might be rather plain. I was wrong. Although the dial is single-coloured, there are details that  missed at first glance that reward continued wear. The lumed numerals are all applied – they are not so thick as to be distracting, nor so thin as to look cheap. The dial pillow dial gives a subtle three-dimensional effect, and the hands – which look like simple sticks – are actually chamfered in a way that catches the light as you move the watch in your hand. All this is accentuated by the subtle magnifying effect of the box crystal.

The little details continue with the small seconds dial. A red hand accentuates the hand without being overbearing, and the dial itself is decorated with subtle concentric circles. The overall effect is a feeling that everything is just right. Perfectly proportioned; legible; attractive without being flashy. The Marloe Pacific 76 is a classy watch and one that I thoroughly enjoyed wearing throughout the time I spent with it.

What would I change? A movement with a date option would have been nice for those of is who need that feature – but I can’t really complain when it would spoil such an attractive design. The other thing which bothered me a little is the way that the seconds sub-dial cuts into the numeral – it’s common on many high-end watches and may not bother everyone, but it’s worth pointing out.

Strap and Buckle

I always say that you can tell if a watchmaker is producing their watch to a price by the quality of the strap thy supply. All too often you get a stiff, cheaply-made strap. I am pleased to report that the Marloe Pacific 76 strap is superb.

If I have to pick fault – and that’s my job – the buckle is rather plain. Unlike the rest of the watch, which appears to be designed from the ground up, the buckle feels like a stock piece and although there’s not much you can do to reinvent the design, I couldn’t help feeling that Marloe could have added some ornamentation or a deeper engraving – or matched the brushed/polished chamfers of the watch case.

I really like the Marloe Pacific 76 – and indeed the full Pacific collection, which makes one simple-looking design into four distinctive timepieces, each of which looks superb. A British-designed, Swiss-made watch for under £1000 that looks this good and wears this well? I can’t recommend it enough. Another winner from Marloe.
