Kickstarter Watches Roundup October 2019

It’s time once again to round up some of the Kickstarter watches that we have not had a hands-on experience with.

The Hanbury Automatic

It says on the Kickstarter campaign tagline for the Hanbury Automatic that i is a watch unlike any other. We have to disagree – it’s a to harder to make a unique watch than just adding a wooden dial. Designed in the UK, it basically combines the popular wooden watches we see on eBay and Aliexpress – but puts that dial into a proper metal case. The price may seem steep at £375 but you are getting a Swiss Sellita SW-200 automatic movement so it’s actually priced about right for its specs.

Lagom Sjö

The Lagom Sjö is the second watch from the brand, and apart from the hard to type name (at least if you use a British keyboard” it has another unique feature: its acetate ring. It’s priced at about £100 (depending on what happens to the pound exchange rate over the next few weeks) and for your money you’re getting a decent looking quartz watch that is priced about right in our view.

Triwa Time for Peace II

We have noticed a really odd crossover (at least to our British eyes) between weapons and watches. Our American cousins, in particular, seem to always be posting photos of watches paired with terrifying-looking knives or guns. We won’t wade into the cultural debate over the right to bear arms, but we were drawn to the Triwa Time For Peace watch, which has a dial crafted from confiscated firearms. The Japanese-quartz-powered watch starts at £159 and we think it looks pretty good.
