An Indiegogo campaign caught out eye this week from Galo: a series of 60s-inspired watches in a range of cool colours.

Introducing Galo Watches

The Galo is a traditionally-sized 38mm watch, with retro stylings. Underpinned by the venerable Seiko NH36 (day+date) or NH35 (date only) movement, it is paired with a selection of genuine leather straps. There are three dial options – we are particularly taken with the teal which has a cool 1950s Jukebox vibe to it. On top is a single-domed sapphire crystal.

Galo is an Australian company that says they want to create world-class timepieces for discerning people who share their values. The campaign has the usual lifestyle blurb and “cutting out the middle man” rhetoric, but the real question is how well made the watch is for its asking price. We can’t really comment on that, but the images on the campaign certainly look good. It’s also refreshing to see a day+date function on a watch. We struggled to find any real-world reviews from reviewers we trust, which is a potential red flag. Remember that if you preorder via a crowdfunding site like Indiegogo and the project does not deliver, you will lose whatever money you pledged.
